How I experienced my internship at Kantar Belgium
Challenging, interactive and varied are the three key words that best describe my internship at Kantar. I was placed in the Project Management team, where I helped my colleagues carry out quantitative research for a range of clients from various sectors. The first challenge I encountered was how to handle relatively large volumes of data and understanding how the various types of research differ.
Of course, there's much more to it than just understanding and analysing data. First, you need to ensure that you have properly understood the client’s needs. I have to admit that I found all of the topics of the research I worked on to be incredibly fascinating. As a marketeer, I enjoyed evaluating a repositioning campaign, making decisions on packaging, finding out attitudes towards organic products and researching media consumption habits.
A healthy dose of empathy and creativity also comes in handy at Kantar. Your role involves developing questionnaires for specific types of respondents; you have to try to write the content and design the layout in a way that appeals to the target group. I always enjoyed devising and testing natural flows for all potential scenarios.
I also had the opportunity to shadow a focus group as part of a qualitative study and to work with the Business Developers in the team. The fact that there were differences of opinion and a good balance of people with lots of experience and less experience within the team resulted in some interesting discussions. I was also lucky enough to get the chance to attend some highly informative events, including the Brand Building Conference, which was fantastic!
Working with colleagues from a range of different backgrounds, all with their own specialisms and expertise, was an enriching experience. There was ample opportunity to discuss the work or talk through any difficulties. Everyone does their best to welcome you into the team, which is lovely!
